MediaPilot vs Hootsuite

Built for a department you do not have

Hootsuite's Standard plan is $99 per user per month. That is a sensible price for a social media team with approval chains and eleven networks. It is a strange price for one founder posting twice a week — which is who this alternative is for.

What you are paying for

Enterprise features have an enterprise cost

Hootsuite earns its price in organisations that need it: approval workflows with several reviewers, permission levels, social listening, bulk scheduling across dozens of accounts, compliance trails. If someone in your company has the job title "social media manager", much of that is not overhead — it is the job. If nobody has that job title, you are buying a control room to publish two posts a week. The cost is not only the $99: it is the afternoon spent configuring streams and the fact that nobody opens the dashboard again by week three. MediaPilot has no streams, no listening and no approval chains. It has topics, drafts, a calendar and the numbers that came back. That is a smaller product on purpose.

  • Hootsuite: a control room for a team
  • MediaPilot: a writing assistant for a person
  • Both publish through LinkedIn's official API

Time to first post

Twenty minutes, not an onboarding call

The thing that kills social media tools in small companies is not the price, it is the setup. A tool that needs an afternoon before it produces anything gets that afternoon exactly once. MediaPilot asks what your company does, who you are talking to and how you want to sound. From that it suggests topics and writes the first drafts. The first post can exist within twenty minutes of signing up, which is roughly the attention budget a founder has for a new tool.

  • No streams to configure
  • Topics suggested from your profile and the links you add
  • Edit anything before it publishes

Where Hootsuite is the better choice

Several people must approve a post

We have no approval chain. If a draft needs legal and a manager before it goes out, Hootsuite does that and we do not.

You manage many brands or networks

Ten accounts on one screen is Hootsuite's home ground.

You want to try without a card

Their 14-day trial asks for no payment details. Ours asks for a card up front — worth knowing before you start.

FAQ

Good to know

No. It is a smaller product that does one thing Hootsuite does not: it writes the post and makes the image. It also lacks listening, approvals and other networks.

A smaller tool, on purpose
